I Tinker

Postby pdog » Wed May 04, 2016 2:57 pm

When I’m not building, repairing or fixing race car “stuff” I like to tinker with small emgines 8-)

My latest acquisition is a Briggs and Stratton model 14 that checked out okay except for excessive crankshaft end play.
I’m not about ready to rip the engine down to a pile of scrap iron if it doesn’t have a chance of running so I set out to see if it will run and run it does, very well considering I snagged this big lump from a scrap pile.

From all I can figure out this lump will make for a dandy little engine, perhaps for a motorized bicycle, something to tease the Hardley guys with

First engines i ever played with when i was 10-11 years old. My old man built me and brother s stainless box section frames go-cart with a 2.5hp B&S in the back. Most fun iv'e had had with a motorized vehicle.

What will you do with it, tidy it up and sell on or keep ot for something?

It’s a keeper 8-)
I’ll tidy it up a bit, no restorations in my future, then maybe, just maybe plant it on a bicycle frame.
Just looking for another way to hurt myself and what better way than on/off two wheels

BTW: This Big Arse Briggs ia a whopping 14.2 cu in. (233cc)
Makes 5.1HP @ 3,200RPM (.36HP per cu in)
Is 15” long and 18” tall not including that way fugly looking but awesome sounding muffler. 8-)

Right now it sounds like a sewing machine, I’m sure it needs a valve adjust.
